Painting Fairies!

       This week Skyler is continuing to learn all about fairies and herbs she also painted some fairies for the wall!

  
      It took her a minute to master the magic of mixing the right colors to get the looks she wanted but after that she did great!

Skyler And Her Summer Magic Book

        I knew Skyler would want a book to keep track of all the stuff she is doing for Magic School this summer. I made her one this past school year so for summer I decided to get her a Summer Journal! She calls it her magic book and has used it in her own way to make it work for her! We use these journals all year and Skyler especially loves them! She gets to color and doodle and such so it is right up her artsy little alley! For summer she is all about fairies and herbs! Finding fairy books for a 13 year old that aren't babyish was almost a challenge!

Magical Field Trip!

         We had so much fun! The traveling exhibit of Harry Potter's World Renaissance, Science, Magic and Medicine was local! I actually stumbled across this years ago but it has never been close enough to visit so this was really cool to finally be able to go!

       So much of the Magical World is from actual history. It is so interesting to learn where certain ideas and such are rooted from. 

Potions Fun!

       It can sometimes be hard to make learning "magical" so I wanted to find "potions" that had actual science in it when I stumbled across this book and I LOVE IT!!! The book also has a link to download potions labels to make it even more fun! These are actual science experiments with a magic twist! Now I will say I had no idea how much work would go into getting all the ingredients for this. Some I had to order off line. None were really expensive, just the searching and all was time consuming. I didn't want to just start off with a few things and every time she would say I want to do this or that etc. I would be stumped finding stuff. I wanted it all together nice and neat so she could have complete freedom in picking or choosing what she wanted to do! 

Herbology Fun!

Magic Summer Time

       So this week Skyler has picked her books to start out her summer lessons and we cleaned and organized her Magic School space! I am really looking forward to her Herb Fairies lessons!

     
       Her Wizards Workshop sure has grown from being one little shelf!

       She calls this the Astronomy Tower!

       All of her Magical Creatures have found a new home in their own little cubby instead of being spaced all over the room!

FAIRIES!!!!

           There is nothing more magical than a fairy garden! We wanted ours to stand out so we turned it into a tea party! This little table and chairs has been hers since as far back as she remembers but she is long since out grown it. Re purposing is always fun! This summer she is learning all about fairies and healing herbs. Magic School has been so hit and miss and she really enjoys it so I have to make sure it happens more. We joined Herb Fairies and it is amazing! She will learn all about healing herbs and natural remedies with a fairy theme! How fun is that!

Spiderwick During Week 9

        A special little witch got a special delivery this week! Not quite sure how I missed The Spiderwick Chronicles popularity but I sure did! Thankfully Hagrid realized this totally belonged in every study of Magical Creatures and sent her a gift box!

Potions And Pets!

       A while back Skyler made a dragons egg and since then it has sat in the Mandrake pot! What she didn't know is that all this time a baby dragon was growing inside it! She just had to wait until it was cold enough for it to hatch! Since Florida rarely sees actual cold I never dreamed this would happen but low and behold some spells were cast and we had BRRRRRRR freezing temps!! Well, out hatched her newest little friend! 

      A new baby dragon she has named Tempest! I knew I would raise at least one Shakespeare addict!

Skyler Making Potions

      Since we are doing the big Medieval Study this month Magic School has taken a break, but that is not stopping Skyler from learning new potions with her Moon and Moth Magic Potions Set!

      So I was really bored one night and as usual I searched out some ideas for Magic School and low and behold I found something amazing!! This cool little company that makes potions! Moon and Moth Magic Co. is MAGICAL! Skyler had no idea this was on its way so BIG surprise to her and she loved it! I was astounded from the moment the box opened!

      Look at that cool packaging! I was honestly planning on repacking this in some brown paper with twine and slapping on a Diagon Alley label, but this was beyond beautiful in my opinion!

      
      She opened the box and said, "oh a big butterfly book" LOL! I told her in the magic world things are not always as they seem. When she started to pull it out she realized right off this was NO ordinary book at all. 

Week 5 Magic Fun!!

      I was gonna skip doing book week posts because there isn't much interesting about watching a kid read LOL! We have been pretty bad on Magic School scheduling and I am hoping that the New Year makes me get it in gear and do this stuff cause she really enjoys it and honestly I do too! I love that at 13 she still has that twinkle about her! 

      She is reading through Dragonolgy for Magical Creatures and really enjoying herself with it. 

Week 4 Magic Fun

       
      So we had another project week! These seem to be her favorite weeks of course. We just had to split all the books she is wanting to read and all the activities she is wanting to do because too much in one day was too overwhelming! Alternating the weeks seem to be much, much better! So we started off with potions this week and it was all about mystical sand!
       

Week 2 Magic Fun!

       I was called "best mom ever" and "coolest mom in the world" several times after today! Apparently, not many moms teach their child fire based potions in the house or make butter beer fudge! This was project week and we had a blast to be truthful I loved every minute of it! The potion we did today was burning basilisk skin and it was awesome! I knew it would be wonderful so after she finished all her mixing I decided to video the outcome. 

Week 1 Magic School

     Between a hurricane, sick kids and outside commitments Magic School has been hit or miss. We never even technically finished our week one from when we started it! So, this was the week we finished it and did the book work. This was not a terribly fun week apparently according to my little Skyler witch! 

  This is her journal of all she will do for Magic School. She likes having everything all together in one spot so this is what I came up with! She will read her books and watch a movie if I can find something fitting. 

She also still enjoys using her quill pens.  

Week 1 2017 2018 Magic Fun

     To kick off our first back to Magic School day, we watched the best movie ever, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them! Skyler absolutely adored it she said it was even cooler than Harry Potter movies! It must have something to do with the fact that it was all about the animals of course! Today was all about the Magical Creatures as far as Skyler was concerned. 

     For Cauldron Cooking she brewed up a cool pixie punch smoothie! (blueberry smoothie for ya muggles).

     She drank from her super cool hand painted Herbology glasses too! 

     

What We Are Doing For The First Semester

     I am so excited to start Magic school up again this year! Last year we had started mid-year and it was more of a on the fly plan but this year I had time to plan a whole semester!!! Our classes this semester are Quidditch, Arithmancy, Potions, Care Of Magical Creatures and of course Cauldron Cooking! We will still be sticking with our every other week schedule. One week is more reading our books and doing our written work the next week is when we do the fun stuff!

     Since in our Muggle school we use The Thinking Tree Journals I really wanted to have something similar for her classes with Magic School. So I searched online and came up with some stuff I tossed together to make her a journal. All of the planner pages were found online and are on our Hogwarts Style Home School Pinterest Page. I put it all in a binder with a page on front she can color if she so chooses too. The binder is also better than having it all bound that way I can add things I may find or make later.
