Welcome to Hogwarts Distance Education, I hope you enjoy seeing our fun as much as I have had in the planning of it. Setting up my schoolroom has always been a big fun deal to me. I do rea;lize that the children are getting older, themes are kind of wasting away for them but I wanted just one more. Just one more big thing before they are just too old to really have fun with it anymore.

The idea started with a few posters and a yahoo group. Then of course we had to have a Honeydukes and before you knew it the kids had thrown around ideas, I saw Harry Potter parties online and this little idea has taken on a life of its own. Because like me my children have to go all out so to speak!

Week 7

We had our week 7 of Wizard School! Here the kiddos are writing out their Wizard Words for the week.  The words come from The Unofficial Harry Potter Vocabulary book. They do 5 words a week. The write the definition in their notebooks and we make up sentences orally. They have come up with some whoppers let me say! This week one of the words was crone. Foxs sentence was, "My mom acts like a crone when we don't do our work, but she don't look one". Followed with a sweet smile and a I love you mommy! What a riot that kid is!

We finished our Wizardology book.  We have one more assignment before the O.W.L.S testing in the workbook I made to go along with it. At the very end of the book there is one last hidden secret the kids had fun with. It was Harpiers book that would answer any magical question. Of course you had to hoot like an owl and counter clock-wise turn three times to get an answer but they had fun doing it!

Not quite sure why Damian would not take off his blanket but Skyler told him he looked like an old crone! They are really liking that word.

Skyler really enjoys reading her letter every week from Hagrid. She tells me everytime we need to get him some spelling lessons! This week they learned about the Phoenix.

For potions they made invisble crystals. This experiment came from the old Harry Potter science kits.

They had to sit for two hours and then we took them out and put them in water the kids were pretty thrilled that they really did seem to dissapear once in water.

In History we learned about The Ravenclaw house and of course they did their arithmancy lesson for the day. They pretty much have two weeks left until their classes change. Work for me! There are some things I really hate doing. I hate washing the floor under the cabinets where the mop don't get it as clean as I like and I also hate to vaccuum. Problem solved I came up with Goblin Jobs and that is how they earn their coins for Diagon Alley. I have never seen them happier to do chores!

Skyler is washing aloong under the cabinets

Fox is vaccuuming the school room

Here is what their savings books look like inside. The sticks you see are the job sticks, they get three a week but they have asked for more! The coins came from Etsy I just printed them out and cut them. All in all it was a great week for Magic School and there are even more pics here.

Magic Crystals Potion outcomes from week 6

This is day 2 There is a bit of growth. There is enough that the kids can actually see something is happening!
This is about day 5. Alot of growing going on here. I notice there is barely any smell now of the chemicals used.

Today. This is day 7. The crystals have now grown over the edging of the glass pan, sadly I am thinking I won't have a glass circle in my baking dishes anymore. They are a bit dissapointed for some reason they thought it would be way more colorful. I could have used more food coloring but oh well. They are very pleased with their garden!

Week 6

In Wizardology this week we studied the things we can use to predict the future! The had alot of fun playing with the cards that were included in the book.

Fox also had fun with the palm reading. He kept trying to read his own as well as Skylers. In Magical creatures we learned about a vorpol bunny. The description was very similiar to the bunny in our house as Fox had to point out.

We were a week behind on our potions so this week they got to do two of them. There was no complaint there.

The first being from the yahoo group and it was making a crystal garden. Sadly I had to look up some stuff online because the potion did not tell us how much of each ingredient to add. The have learned from their potions study you must follow directions exactly!

Skyler just had to smell the invertebrae sponges!

It was great to hear Fox say sodium chloride was salt. I like when he remembers the things we learn in science. Makes me feel as if I haven't wasted my breathe.

Damian thought the dragons tears smelled funny! This is actually liquid bluing.  One the garden was complete we set it in my room to be undisturbed and now we wait and I really hope it works!

The second potion we did was touch of lightening. This is from the old Harry Potter science kits.

They really liked the little cauldrons and the mixing wands alot.

Damian liked watching the lightening bolt vanish from the golden rod paper. The did their goblin jobs and today was a Diagon Alley Day and because of the extra work Damian did he got to shop first! Fox decided to skip out on his job so I offered Damain the job and he made the money! He finally got to buy the magic worm he had wanted for quite a while now. I have no idea why but he loves these things.

Skyler bought stuff this time and only a bit of candy. She liked the sugared butterfly box. She finally has her magical pony. She also got the last worm!!

Fox bought some fizzing wizbees, a unicorn horn and a cauldron cake! He was really happy with that cauldron cake!

Look at that BIG smile! She is such a happy little wizard girl! For more pics of this week go here.
