Welcome to Hogwarts Distance Education, I hope you enjoy seeing our fun as much as I have had in the planning of it. Setting up my schoolroom has always been a big fun deal to me. I do rea;lize that the children are getting older, themes are kind of wasting away for them but I wanted just one more. Just one more big thing before they are just too old to really have fun with it anymore.

The idea started with a few posters and a yahoo group. Then of course we had to have a Honeydukes and before you knew it the kids had thrown around ideas, I saw Harry Potter parties online and this little idea has taken on a life of its own. Because like me my children have to go all out so to speak!

Owl Scouts

I looked into boy scouts, I looked into girl scouts even done that for a bit but it just didn't feel right. I don't have anything in particular against them it just won't work. I know my kids are always wanting to do something though so the yahoo group for Hogwarts had a few files about OWL SCOUTS. I have come up with a ton of ideas and I think we are gonna do this. I know it will be some type of nature out doorsy sort of thing. Of course we will study owl!! Which all my kids love anyway! The best thing will be NO SELLING. I detest selling anything. I despise it from the bottom of my heart. I am not sure exactly how it will all play out but I know it will start in October. That way they have a few weeks of getting back into the rythm of full school days.
The yahoo group had some places listed online for patches and so far this is my favorite place. I decided tonight while at Walmart to get them the canvas drawstring packs to put their patches on. That way it won't be too girly or to boy.

I also came across this site from The Well Trained Mind and it looks like a great activity! I just don't know yet about making a stamp because I am not good at that stuff.

I also found this really neat site that you can hear the sounds owls make. I actually used it when my youngest was in another room and she ran in looking for the owl! I told her an owl had just ran in and dropped off a letter in her mailbox. It was her invitation and registering papers for Hogwarts Distance Education Course.

I am thinking of an OWL lapbook to start scouts off! We have been looking at live owl cams and I told the kids those just might be the Hogwarts owls! I also found another patch place that I really like. I have also found a ton of crafts online having to do with owls. I am just amazed at all the owl stuff out there!
