Welcome to Hogwarts Distance Education, I hope you enjoy seeing our fun as much as I have had in the planning of it. Setting up my schoolroom has always been a big fun deal to me. I do rea;lize that the children are getting older, themes are kind of wasting away for them but I wanted just one more. Just one more big thing before they are just too old to really have fun with it anymore.
The idea started with a few posters and a yahoo group. Then of course we had to have a Honeydukes and before you knew it the kids had thrown around ideas, I saw Harry Potter parties online and this little idea has taken on a life of its own. Because like me my children have to go all out so to speak!

Week 4 Magic Fun
So we had another project week! These seem to be her favorite weeks of course. We just had to split all the books she is wanting to read and all the activities she is wanting to do because too much in one day was too overwhelming! Alternating the weeks seem to be much, much better! So we started off with potions this week and it was all about mystical sand!
She played with it for quite a while. She made little underwater islands and then picked them up shocked it was still dry. She learned all about the different things that can make sand either get saturated with water or be water shy LOL! This week she also expressed to her brother that she wanted a candle ceiling like Hogwarts so of course her big brother and I had to make that happen!
For Magical Creatures we used the Dragonolgy secret code set!
She had a ton of fun writing secret messages.
She also tried to read secret writings!
For Quidditch we studied the different types of feathers owls have for flight. That may come in handy for broom flying!
They also made a mock up wing and learned all about bending it and such to see how it flew well or turned.
They compared different feathers and tested gravity by seeing which would fall faster.
For cauldron cooking the girls made butterbeer poke cake and it was amazing! This is by no means our recipe it came from this site. The cake was a bit involved and I was pleasantly surprised when they were willing to do it on their own without the baker boy!
They also had fun with this game making up their own rules and stories for the characters LOL!
In arithmancy she learned a trick about cutting up graph paper and when you put it back together there is an extra square!
As usual it was a magical week! Happy spell casting magic folk!!
